The Toast of the Brewery

Tyco Flow Control has recently completed an important upgrade for a major U.S. brewer without causing any disruption of the production schedule. The project to fit actuators and switches to the existing valve population on maturation tanks was so successful that the customer has scheduled a similar project for 2009.

With the requirement to automate over 300 valves on lager production lines spread over three separate sites, Tyco Flow Control's technical sales team conducted an audit of the sites to identify all valves by size and model and subsequently determine automation requirements. Product consignments were packaged and clearly identified to streamline the installation operation and reduce the installation time spent by the customer's field team to an absolute minimum. Finally any unforeseen events during installation were addressed by Tyco Flow Control's local warehouse inventory and automation support personnel.

Morin MRA rack and pinion actuators and effector switches were chosen to automate the existing Keystone and Grinnell valves while custom fabricated brackets and adaptors were designed and supplied to mount the switches onto manual valves.

The swift and punctual completion of the project and the care with which it was fitted into production windows has cemented the relationship with this major player and guaranteed further work in the coming year.
